How to read your PnL: realized, unrealized and average entry

What the numbers on your holdings mean, and why your profit can change without you selling.

Key points
  • Realized PnL is locked in when you sell.
  • Unrealized PnL moves with price.
  • Average entry blends all your buys.

Two kinds of profit

Realized PnL is profit or loss from what you already sold. Unrealized PnL is what you would make if you sold the rest right now.

Example position
Avg. entry
$0.0012
Realized
+$42
Unrealized
−$8

Average entry

If you buy the same coin several times, your average entry is the blended price of all those buys. Your PnL % is measured against it.
